Gwynn's Island Civic League Foundation
Supporting Education and Historical Preservation

ABOUT US
The Gwynn's Island Civic League Foundation, is a 501(c)3 organization formed in August 2021 as a vision of Joe Atherton. Its purpose is to promote the welfare of Gwynn's Island residents and property owners through educational support, historical preservation and emergency needs by giving back to the community. Its primary goals are achieved by innovative fundraising with monies returned quickly back into the community in support of Mathews County students and school programs via classroom and student mini grants. It awards scholarships for students entering a four-year college or university. It also administers the Atherton Fund (named for its founder) that offers an annual scholarship to a student pursuing a post-secondary education in a trade or community college.
